{"id":166,"date":"2015-03-10T16:14:13","date_gmt":"2015-03-10T16:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rsaustin.lnoldan.com\/?p=166"},"modified":"2015-03-02T16:20:16","modified_gmt":"2015-03-02T16:20:16","slug":"why-lent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/risensavioraustin.net\/?p=166","title":{"rendered":"Why Lent?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why do we celebrate the season of Lent? \u00a0Historically, the practice grew out of a time of preparation for Easter observed by the ancient Christian Church.\u00a0 The interesting thing is, it seems to have grown from just a two day observance to the six week (40 day) celebration that we have today.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I need that time of preparation.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0\u00a0 Because during those days of Lent, I have a renewed opportunity to recall our Lord\u2019s suffering and death on my behalf.\u00a0 I\u2019m able to see again firsthand all of what Jesus endured for me as a sinner. \u00a0And when my attention starts to drift away, and my mind starts to wander towards other things, God\u2019s Word helps reel me back in so that I can see again the extent of my Savior\u2019s love for me.<\/p>\n<p>When we hear the story of Christ\u2019s passion, it\u2019s not just a reminder of something we once learned.\u00a0 Nor is it just a refresher course on Jesus.\u00a0 Rather, it\u2019s here that God imparts his power again and again through the gospel\u2019s message.\u00a0 It\u2019s here that he works to strengthen our faith, to comfort us with his ever present love and give us the power to live as his disciples.\u00a0 May the Lord continue to bless our Lenten worship as together we witness all that our Lord has done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why do we celebrate the season of Lent? \u00a0Historically, the practice grew out of a time of preparation for Easter observed by the ancient Christian Church.\u00a0 The interesting thing is, it seems to have grown from just a two day observance to the six week (40 day) celebration that we have today.
